Our mission

Plant-for-the-Planet is a global movement to restore forest ecosystems to tackle the climate crisis and biodiversity loss. To do so, we empower young people, restore ecosystems, conduct restoration research, provide free software tools and restoration advice for organizations around the world.

We believe that we need to protect the world’s three trillion trees and bring back a further one trillion trees.

Contribution to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration

As an active supporter of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, Plant-for-the-Planet contributes through concrete action, innovative tools, and global collaboration to accelerate large-scale ecosystem restoration.

Model Restoration Project in Yucatán, Mexico: Our flagship restoration project in the Yucatán Peninsula serves as a role model for large-scale, science-based forest restoration. With a long-term commitment to ecological integrity, local community engagement, and transparency, the Yucatán Restoration Project provides critical insights and replicable approaches for practitioners around the world.

The Forest Cloud: Our open-source digital platform connects a global network of restoration initiatives, providing them with vital tools to scale their impact. This includes a rigorous self-developed compliance and verification standard, a donation infrastructure, and digital tools for monitoring, fire alerts, and planting data through apps like TreeMapper. The platform strengthens accountability, visibility, and access to funding for restoration projects globally.

Children and Youth Empowerment as Catalyst for Restoration: Through our youth programs, we empower the next generation of climate leaders to become Climate Justice Ambassadors. By combining education, activism, and direct engagement in restoration and conservation efforts, we bridge the gap between empowerment and ecological action—ensuring long-term stewardship of forest ecosystems.
