About
Acción Andina, is restoring forest and freshwater ecosystems in the Andes of South America with its strategic partner, Peruvian conservation nonprofit, Asociación Ecosistemas Andinos (ECOAN). Acción Andina is a community-based initiative working to protect high-Andean forest ecosystems for water security and their invaluable benefits to nature and millions of people in the region. Recognized as one of the seven World Restoration Flagships by the United Nations in 2024 and as a 2023 Earthshot Prize winner, Acción Andina is the first large-scale multinational initiative aimed at restoring high-altitude forests in six Andean countries in South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, with plans to expand to Venezuela. This region is a critical biodiversity hotspot, home to approximately 45,000 plant species and thousands of bird, reptile, and amphibian species.
