Our mission

NatureScot is preventing greenhouse gas emissions and reestablishing natural ecosystem processes through our Peatland Action initiative. Scotland's iconic peatlands cover more than 20% of our land area, provide drinking water to most of the nation's population, and when healthy store vast amounts of carbon. They also provide important habitat to amphibians, reptiles and ground-nesting birds like the curlew and the golden plover. To mobilize their rehabilitation at scale, Peatland Action provides funding and support to landowners for the on-the-ground restoration activities.
