Our mission
We are working to restore and protect the Desa’a Forest in Tigray, Ethiopia, a biodiversity hotspot threatened by desertification, social turbulence, and extreme poverty. We use Assisted Natural Regeneration to protect topsoils from erosion, preserve freshwater resources, and generate payments for ecosystem services. We also work closely with rural communities — especially women, the landless, subsistence farmers and youth — to reduce pressure on the forest by restoring denuded areas with trees that provide food security, and generate incomes from skills like sheep rearing and beekeeping.
