Our mission

Forests Ontario, together with its national division Forest Recovery Canada, creates, restores, and grows healthy, resilient forests in communities across the country.

A registered charity in Canada, Forests Ontario / Forest Recovery Canada works with more than 100 nurseries, professional planting partners, seed collectors, forestry consultants, Indigenous communities, regional community groups, and conservation authorities to manage and deliver one of the country’s largest afforestation and restoration programs, planting approximately two to three million trees with hundreds of private landowners each year. The charity also offers accessible, community-driven outreach initiatives to increase urban tree canopy cover, as well as free educational programs for all ages, inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.

Contribution to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration

Forests Ontario is proud to be designated an official Restoration Implementer of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

Restoring and caring for healthy ecosystems through smart, pro-active planting, maintenance and management processes is crucial to meeting the needs of current and future generations and contributes greatly to the wellbeing of communities and natural habitats across the country and world-wide.

Forests Ontario / Forest Recovery Canada is a leader in all aspects of the tree planting supply chain ensuring that healthy forests start all the way from seed to seedling to future forest. We continually adapt and innovate our restoration practices to improve intended ecological outcomes and to meet the needs of all community stakeholders. The trees and shrubs grown are resilient, native varieties that will support biological diversity and increase habitat for wildlife, help mitigate the impacts of climate change, and improve the health and longevity of Canada’s forests and the communities that benefit from them.
