Our mission

Since 2008, our project has been planting indigenous trees in the Buffelsdraai Regional Landfill Site, with the aims of creating a large carbon sink, restoring areas that have suffered from overexploitation, and improving the livelihoods of forest-dependent communities. Our project has already seen a marked increase in biodiversity. Over a 5-year period, the number of bird species surveyed in the site increased from 91 to 145, and now counts 197. We estimate that the young forest will absorb 42,000 tons of CO2 equivalent by 2028.
