Our mission

When farmland is abandoned, invasive or otherwise harmful plants can be the first species to take over. This has been the case in the southern hills of Sintra, where our communities are facing increasing forest fires ignited in dry, unmanaged brush. These fires threaten the security of our human and animal inhabitants, destabilize the soil, and facilitate the invasion of exotic species. By using a landscape mosaic strategy, we are restoring Sintra's natural and cultural landscapes, making room for native biodiversity to return, and mitigating the risk of wildfires.
