Impact

Kyrgyzstan has suffered unmitigated degradation of its pasturelands, resulting in reduced productivity and low pastureland capacities as a result of poor and ineffective pastureland management mechanisms by the past governments. Kyrgyz Jayity has facilitated the formation of 454 Pasture Users Unions (PUUs), each with an executive body, and a Jayit (Pasture) Committee in every region of Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyz Jayity and local communities have established and defined pasture boundaries, set fees for the use of pasturelands, and made provisions for access for pasture use. Pasture Users and local communities employ best practices in rotational, effective, and planned usage of pastureland, leading to restoration of degraded rangelands. These practices have resulted in restoration of pasture conditions; repaired infrastructure; effective and equitable resource use.
