Impact

We believe that local farmers are at the forefront of efforts to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change. They not only play a role as land managers, but also as agents of change, able to restore ecosystems while maintaining the welfare of their communities.

GFI focuses on landscape restoration through an agroforestry approach. By combining various types of trees and intercrops such as cocoa and patchouli, GFI hopes that restoration efforts can go hand in hand with increased income for local farmers. In addition to working at the grassroots level, GFI is also committed to developing the value chain of products produced by farmers. GFI empowers farmers by providing them with:

– A diverse selection of seedlings: Timber trees, fruit trees, and vegetables, a variety that enriches both the land and livelihoods.
– Comprehensive training: Equipping farmers with the skills to adopt sustainable practices and unlock the full potential of their land.
– Transparency and responsibility: The planted trees are monitored using an app called TREEO to ensure the growth and carbon absorption data are accurate.

Starting 2022, GFI supported over 658 farmers by distributing over 396,985 seedlings. This agroforestry system boosts incomes for farmers and communities by creating a continuous flow of harvests. With a mix of crops that mature at different times, there’s always something to reap, ensuring a steady stream of income.

Today, GFI continues to build on its strong foundation, expanding its impact across Indonesia. With an experienced team and strong partnerships, we are committed to restoring forests and creating sustainable economic opportunities for local communities.
