Our mission

Founded in 1992, the Green Belt that now rings our city offers a large number of natural areas that enhance the ecological connectivity of our urban and peri-urban spaces to our local ecosystems. It is a recognized Ramsar site and member of the European Natura 2000, the world's largest network of protected breeding areas and resting sites for endemic and endangered species. The Green Belt features several types of parks, space for organic agriculture, a botanical garden and a network of trails. While we have come far, there are a number of remaining degraded areas ripe for further restoration.
