Our mission

In the 1970s, thousands of hectares of mangroves in the Cacheu and Castanhez National Parks in Guinea-Bissau were converted into rice fields. Wetlands International, Greenchoice and Face the Future work with communities and park authorities to restore hydrology and soil conditions of 2,800 ha of abandoned lands to facilitate the natural recruitment of millions of seedlings. This will support critical biodiversity such as manatees, humpback dolphins, and millions of migratory birds, sequester over 1 million tonnes of CO2, and enhance the livelihoods of thousands of vulnerable people.
