Our mission
The vibrant blue haven of Ziway Shalla Lake is studded with thousands of colorful birds like flamingos, the black crowned crane and the Saker Falcon. Surrounded by green acacia forest and lush grasslands, this lake is a critical source of freshwater for local communities. Working with Dutch and Ethiopian organizations alongside small farmers, Wetlands International is enabling communities to regenerate vegetation, block gullies to prevent soil erosion, build water conservation structures to restore this critical flyway for migratory birds, and secure fresh water for future generations.
