Our mission

The Resilience for People and Landscapes Programme (REPLAP) is a three-year innovative programme aimed at building the resilience of communities and ecosystems within selected river sub-catchments to the impacts of increasingly severe and frequent drought, through strengthened ecosystem management and adaptive capacity.

The mission of REPLAP is to achieve sustainable restoration and management in priority river catchments in Kenya and Uganda in order to improve the adaptive capacities of local communities. This is achieved through three main outputs: 1) Institutional governance strengthened for climate resilience; 2) Sustainable catchment restoration and management; and 3) Climate adaptive livelihoods systems supported.

Impact

The target area has an estimated population of 4.2 million who are highly dependent on natural resources. The Lower and Mid Tana and Aswa-Agago catchments in Kenya and Uganda are the focal areas for REPLAP, directly benefitting 386,000 vulnerable nomadic pastoral and agro-pastoral community members. From the target population, 52% of the project beneficiaries were estimated to be women and 48% men. Fundamental to the basis of the work of REPLAP is the recognition that all livelihoods in Lower Tana and Aswa-Agago basins are directly dependent on locally available natural resources.
